Units were alerted for a large gas leak in the area of Sunnyside Avenue and Baltimore Avenue in Beltsville. Upon arrival it was discovered that a large (4 inch) main had been struck during construction. Due to the size of the gas main and the amount of pressure associated with the leak, a large area surrounding the break was cordoned off and businesses were evacuated while the local gas company handled the problem. No injuries were reported.
